It seems with the social media and self-publishing of this
day in age, you really have to be a fake braggart to get your name out
there. My question is how can a humble writer make it in
this business with out shouting “Look at me! Look at me!”
I was in the process of looking for an additional beta
reader, when I came across a website or a hundred with writers
self-promoting this or that blog which
is used to promote upcoming books, click this link to follow. Obviously this is
a path I must take to gain readers but I wonder where the humble pie is in the
process.
Maybe it is all a over-compensation for the amount of
rejection a writer faces. We all think
our stories are great until the first beta or crit partner brings you down a
notch or two. (Yes, I am using tons of clichés, I love to buck the
system…passive aggressively that is.) Then you submit (honestly I am not even
to this step yet.) and a publisher cuts your baby a new one and you are left
with the remnants of a year’s worth of creativity, blood, sweat and tears.
Maybe I will become a fortune writer for a Chinese food
company.
