In reading my crit Partners last chapter of her upcoming book, I realized I was pointing out issues I have in my own writing yet cant seem to pick these same issues out when I do my edits. What makes us so blind? I know websites and resources always tell you to put the story a way for a day, a week or a month and look at it with fresh eyes. I swear I do this, sometimes leaving a story to stew for many months but I cannot see the forest for the trees.
I can look at her chapter and see where there is not enough scene description or stale dialog but I look at my WIP and I never can see that same issue. But I guess that is why we have crit partners, writer's group, etc.
I think it is the same as the therapist who can give great advice to their patients yet have f#cked up lives themselves. We can always see in others what we fail to miss in ourselves.
